(war made easy) Propaganda

Propaganda... is such a powerful form to sway the public. One of the most effective ways to control the public is through fear. We are exposed to so many different realities through the media. We consider ourselves luck to have the government we have. When looking at other countries such as North Korea, Cuba, which employ a communistic we tend to get a false deeper appreciation of our government. We fear of becoming a nation that is ruled under a dictator. People are not oblivious to this. With a combination of knowledge and fear it is not easy to change the view of a typical citizen. The use of what we have deemed "the boogeyman" has been in play for many decades.

Herman and Chomsky talk about this anticommunist model as a control method used by the media. When "we" decided to go to War in Iraq, the media divided the population into two groups:

      1. Those who are with the U.S. and believe in democracy, and support our troops.
      2. Those against the U.S. who have communistic beliefs and support our enemies.

To the media there is no middle ground, no grey area. They also employ the tactics of "supporting our toops." Even people who don't believe in war and what it stands for, should support the men and women that our fighting to save our lives and ensure a better future for the generations to come. Unfortunately the propaganda model has been used to create this: either your with us or against us mentality.
